On March 15th 2009, the Museum was officially opened. About 15 minutes before the opening time, a crowd of people started gathering in front of the entrance. To their great surprise, a large walking penguin and Mr. Charly Chaplin himself showed up before two moving plush-penguins appeared on the doorstep.
The doors opened at exactly 3.03 pm and after a short speech by curator Birgit Berends, people were invited in. Within the first two hours, perceived 500 guests streamed in (more realistic estimates range between 150 - 200 people, an exact count was impossible). They were welcomed with sparkling wine or orange juice.
We were truly overwhelmed with so much public interest in our opening!
At this point, we would like to express our specials thanks to all the friends and family members who helped us make this dream come true. Thank you all, we could not have made it without you!
